about

'The Auchestron' is an occasional, non-chronological, ambient music magazine in the form of a four-track EP which explores various aspects of the artist's life.

In this second issue, the themes of loneliness and isolation and associated self-mythologies are examined using a palette of sonic textures that rely heavily on the manipulation and synthesis of recorded sound.

For as long as he can remember, Patrik Gryst has heard music in his head.

The experience of hearing music in the absence of any external sounds, has been termed 'musical hallucination' or 'musical tinnitus' and may be associated with schizophrenia, Alzheimer's disease, hearing loss and brain tumours or as a result of problems with blood vessels in the brain. It is also common in people with Obsessional Compulsive Disorder (OCD), which Gryst was diagnosed with in his early twenties.

Most of the time, Gryst hears, what might be termed Musak, or background music, which is mainly comprised of familiar pieces as diverse as Prokofiev's 'Peter and the Wolf' and Grieg's "Morning Mood' to XTC's 'Making Plans for Nigel' and The Human Leagues's 'Love Action'.

On other occasions, Gryst hears unfamiliar music that is often classical in nature or might take the form of a particular instrument such as the piano or synthesizer. When he began studying music as a teenager, he realised that he could exert influence over the composition and sound of the music and this ability has become the main engine of his composition and style of music and influenced the title for this series of EPs.
