Le Morte d’Abby A well-crafted emotional expression of the scene we read from Penumbra, and the as-of-yet unknown world beyond it. Ethereal accented with moments of intentional movement. I want to read and hear more! Favorite track: Teillievion.

about

'Téonevaux' is an EP inspired by Patrik Gryst's unpublished novel 'Penumbra: Voyage of the Sealander’, and explores some of the mythical places and characters in the work.

An excerpt from 'Penumbra: Voyage of the Sealander’

I gazed at the wolf, considering my options. Given the fact that the Arnheim was surrounded by ice, I would have to let the wolf guide me to safety. A talking wolf and an uncharted landmass in the middle of the Norwegian Sea perplexed me considerably.
I filled a rucksack with water and food and lowered myself on the ice. As I stood next to the wolf, I felt like a child compared to his great height.
“Wise choice, Sealander. We must hurry, the ice has a habit of shifting suddenly and Teillievion will move with it and we might lose our opportunity before the moonrise.”
The wolf set off walking and I had to jog to keep up. For the first time, I heard the creaks and squeals of ice as it displaced beneath my feet. We zig-zagged across the frozen ocean at the same pace for hours. Occasionally, the wolf paused and sniffed at the ice before changing direction suddenly. Teillievion grew closer, it’s sheer sides jutted out of the frozen waters for what looked like thousands of feet into the sky like a grand cathedral without windows, disappearing into cloud cover.
“We can rest a few moments Sealander, if you are tired.”
I rummaged in my rucksack for my water bottle and drained it.
“Shouldn’t it be dark now, we have been travelling for hours and the sun has hardly moved.”
“Time shifts with the ice in the Shadowlight.”
“The Shadowlight?”
“The Shadowlight is a realm between your world and mine; it is split into two halves; the day-side and the night-side. This is the day-side where the sun shines perpetually.”
I stared at Teillievion glinting in the distance and scratched my head.
“You look confused Sealander; but that will change.”
“This feels very familiar, like a memory…”
“You are beginning to regain yourself Sealander. You and I have climbed the stairs to Teillievion many times; many times have we walked under the stars in the forests of Téonevaux and journeyed to the house of Reveriega, where Auroralei resides.’
“I know those words…”
“All will become clear Sealander, but now we must travel at speed.”
The wolf set off once again, this time more hurriedly.
